Damon Weaver is a lovely grade 6 little dude from Canal Point Elementary in Florida. He's a reporter for the school news TV channel. Last year, he scored an interview with Vice President Joe Biden, in which he proclaimed Joe to be his homeboy. This year, he has hit the jackpot with a one-on-one interview in the Whitehouse with President Obama. It was a very good interview, I found Damon to be an impressive reporter, and has even improved his style since the Biden encounter. Damon asked some very good questions, among which was whether Obama can make school lunches better; with the suggestion that all lunches consist of french fries and mangoes.
Another high point of the interview is when Damon asks Obama if he can dunk a basketball. Unfortunately, at almost 50, Obama's legs aren't up to it anymore, but he used to dunk all the time. Weaver's buddy is NBA Superstar Dwayne Wade, who is challenging Obama in a game of one-on-one. Obama gratefully accepts the challenge, and I for one will be interested to see this matchup. I wonder if they will play street rules or strict NBA rules. If they play street rules, Obama should be able to get a few elbows in. Obama speaks very well and is genuine when adressing Weaver, and doesn't talk down to him or patronise him at all; very impressive. When Weaver asked Obama if he would be his homeboy, Obama seemed genuinely honoured.
I have a link for the related article and the YouTube video of this miraculous event, complete with Spanish subtitles.
